Our guests are charmed by the value-priced San Remo Hotel located in San Francisco's rich historic North Beach/Little Italy neighborhood. A well-preserved gem the San Remo Guests exudes plenty of charm and history—much of which is evidenced in the old photographs that line the walls. The three-story hotel was originally built just after the famous San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and since then it's offered free rooms to victims of other more recent earthquakes. In keeping with its history as housing for the immigrants who built this city the 64-room spot remains pensione-style with four shared bathrooms for guests. Bedrooms do not have televisions or phones (there's a pay phone in the lobby along with free lobby Wi-Fi). The famous Fior d'Italia which claims to be the first Italian restaurant to have opened in the United States moved to the ground floor of the hotel in 2005. Otherwise known as North Beach San Fran's authentic Italian neighborhood sits near Chinatown and the waterfront. The San Remo Hotel is one block from the Powell/Mason Street cable car line which makes getting to any tourist destination a snap. Fisherman's Wharf and the Cannery shops are a half -mile walk away as is Chinatown. The hotel is 16 miles from San Francisco International Airport and 20.5 miles from Oakland International.
