    Lenni-Lenapi Native Americans have a historical influence on the town. Roads and pathways the natives established have been worked on and developed into the common transportation routes that are used there as well. The town also has quite a bit of historical importance as one of the first planned communities was developed within its borders. The concept incorporated all of the amenities of a functioning community, schools, homes, stores, parks and entertainment in an area that was connected wholesomely by walking paths. This community had many others modeled after it as it was constructed in the early 1940’s.

    Fair Lawn strongly accommodates people working in [wiki=d97e023dce2bb237a0d44f46d8ee9438]New York City[/wiki] as the town has two train stations, unlike surrounding towns in the area. Access to the New Jersey Transit train system is available from opposing sides of the town as well as a very functional bus system that shuttles people in and out of New York City. Nationally recognized Garden State Plaza Mall is also located merely ten minutes West along Rt.4, one of the largest shopping malls in the country. It is important to note that since Fair Lawn is in Bergen County, there is a blue law in effect that doesn’t allow many stores to be open on Sundays, with the exception of food stores and gas stations and such.

      Along one side of Fair Lawn runs Rt.4, East to West, and leads directly into the George Washington Bridge, which connects New Jersey to New York City by the means of passing through [wiki=4bbecc41985c6c72fb246a60a4730996]Fort Lee[/wiki]. Rt.17 connects Northern New York State to Rt.4, which leads into Fair Lawn. Rt.17 is a very popular industrial route, as many large trucks transporting goods tend to use that highway.

      Returning from the southern shores of New Jersey commonly involves taking Rt.17 North until it merges into Rt.4, taking you to Fair Lawn. I-95 is an interstate highway that connects Upstate New York to Northern New Jersey, and is commonly used when entering the state coming from The Tappan Zee Bridge. Eventually it connects into Rt.208, which eventually exits off into Fair Lawn.

      Radburn station and Broadway station are both outlets into New York City and Suffern. The Bergen line trains have a habitual schedule that shuttles people in and out of New York City by transferring people to the NJPATH transfer at the Hoboken station. The Mainline provides access to local train stops in surrounding towns, eventually ending in Suffern, New York. The Bergen line connects Fair Lawn to Secaucus and [wiki=446ffcd8c3b67b0b48b14e0e0e96b7c5]Hoboken[/wiki], both major intermediaries of transportation.

    Getting around Fair Lawn is very straightforward. Map applications on smartphones account for the area very well. Uber has become very popular within recent years as it is cheaper than standard car service rates and taxi services are not all too common in the area.

    Walking is a common method of getting around as well as riding a bicycle. The area is accommodates bicycles very well, as many parks connecting different towns to Fair Lawn have bike baths that pass through them. Buses shuttle in and out of Fair Lawn but do not provide a good mode of getting around within the town, although the minibus does. The minibus is a free service provided by taxpayer money, usually frequented by the elderly, goes around town between morning hours and dusk, shuttling people around.

    Having a car is the optimal mode of getting around. Highways connect many of the surrounding areas together and shopping areas are the most accessible by car.

    The Garreston Forge and Farm is the oldest standing building in town. Parts of it were built in the early 1700’s. It used to be a very active plantation, housing over 15 slaves as well as serving a key economic function during early settlement within the area.
    Another place to see and visit would be the Dutch house Tavern. Originally constructed in the late 1700’s, it was turned into a tavern around 1930. It has been active ever since. Prior to its re-purposing, it was part of a property that stretched into other areas of the county until it the land it was on was bought as part of the eventual creation of Radburn.

    Garden State Plaza Mall is a shopping center housing hundreds of different outlets. AMC movie theatre is also located within the mall, it offers films that are screened in IMAX 3-D.

    Fair Lawn has many shopping centers within its borders. The Fair Lawn Promenade is the most recent addition to the towns selection of shopping destination. The promenade has multiple food establishments, ranging from sit down restaurants to coffee shops.

    River Road has a large selection of shops to frequent. There are multiple banks located on its premises as well as hair salons, food stores and shops, pizzerias, ice cream shops, postal services and large variety of other business's that accommodate a large variety of people's needs.

    On the other side of River Road is Broadway. Partially an extension of route 4, many large shopping centers are situated alongside of it. Stores like Kmart and Walgreen's are easily accessible from any direction and many restaurants are located on Broadway. Chinese delicatessen, Diner style restaurants, Italian cuisine and a wide variety of other culturally influenced restaurants all provide a large variety of places to eat.

    There are approximately 10 parks in Fair Lawn, and only having a population of roughly 40,000, there is a lot of room to go out and find a nice private place to enjoy a nice day.

    Fair Lawn is home to a wide variety of cuisine. You can find Italian, Russian, Korean, Hispanic, South American, Asian, Greek and even Irish food.

    There are many bagel stores and delis in the area. Local's in the area favorite the Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese on a bagel, a sandwich that most bagel stores can make for a hungry customer.

    Deli's in the area have a strong Italian influence, although there are Russian and kosher delis in the area as well. A notable Deli, Giovanni's, has made regional headlines in popular Newspapers and has won awards for one of their sandwiches, the 57.

    Pizzerias can be found in every shopping plaza.
