Moloka'i is the fifth largest island of the major Hawaiian Islands and is the third oldest. Molokai is considered "The Most Hawaiian Island" with the most native Hawaiians per capita. Also called "The Friendly Island" because of the aloha from the residents.

    • By plane

There are multiple daily flights from Honolulu on Pacific Wings, IslandAir and Mokulele Airlines. Pacific Wing's primary aircraft is a 9 passenger, single engine Cessna Caravan. Seats on Island Air range from $60 and up. Island Air's primary aircraft is the Bombardier Dash 8 and ATR 72. Mokulele Airlines has service from Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG). Round trip should cost around $140.

Amazing sights, no TSA, show up 20 minutes before and head out with a handful of other adventurers or commuters (remember to head to the commuter terminal!). Pilots are all fresh air-force cadets and are super fun to hang out with. The views are incredible and cannot be seen from the water. Worth the extra cost!

Not recommended for those who get sea sick/motion sick. If you get sea sick (the ferry is okay at best in the morning, but usually rough in the afternoon.)

Many of the sights and beaches are spread out across the island so a car or tourbus is the best way to get around. There is an Alamo rental car location at the airport. They only have van's and Jeeps (as of Oct. 2012.) Our Jeep was $85 for the day. Gas is fairly expensive too, so remember to drive with aloha :-) Roads are in very good shape around the island.

For shorter distances, mules and horses are another option.

If you hold a valid US car insurance policy of your own, you can rent from local resident Pat who operates Mobettah Cars[http://www.mobettahcarrentals.com/].

Take note that as with most car rental companies both Alamo and Mobettah Cars will charge you a premium should you return the car without having filled the tank with fuel. There are two petrol stations on the island and both are in the town of Kaunakakai so plan to call in here to fill up on your way back to the airport[http://wanderlusters.com/molokai-travel-guide-hawaiian-island/].

    Mule rides
Three miles, 26 switchbacks and 90 minutes of magnificent views accompany the guided mule ride through Kalaupapa National Historical Park to the island’s leper colony. No longer dedicated to the quarantine of those afflicted with Hansen’s disease, Kalaupapa is place of reflection, a remote memorial to those who lived out their lives in isolation.

*Go to the west end of the Island to see the three mile white sand beach called Papohaku. Guaranteed you will not see more than a handful of other people there. Good to walk on, no swimming. Harsh surf. Go to Maunaloa. It was part of an old plantation and is neat to see. It has a kite factory!.
*Drive the East side of the island for a pretty crazy road. Amazing sights but drive slow, don't ride the brakes and take pictures!

    * . Some say is is the only good place to eat in Kaunakakai. It looks a bit rough to some (like a party place) but the staff was friendly and the food was great!

    * There are also many other places in Kaunakakai such as their Pizza company, hamburger drive-in joint, and a Subway.
